In the Chinese Buddhist tradition, Kuan-Yin is the female incarnation of the Buddha of compassion and love (Bodhisattva Avalokiteswara). Kuan-Yin means "she who hears the cry of the world" and embodies the Buddha's compassion for the suffering. Kuan-Yin is the embodiment of the yin principle. She is usually depicted as a young goddess, but she is said to have the power to take on any form necessary to fulfill her vow to help beings out of suffering.
