Place a lit smoking briquette or a piece of glowing charcoal on the grid of the container and pour incense on it.
Another way of using it is to place the briquette directly in the container and in this case put fine sand into it so that the burner does not get very hot. Place a lit briquette and incense on the sand. The sand also ensures a better air flow under the briquette.

The container with sand can also be used as a base for incense sticks. Simply stick the incense sticks into the sand.
