Each Tibetan singing bowl is different due to its hand-made construction, and so is the sound. The larger and thicker the vessel, the deeper its tone. The bowl also comes with a wooden stick (one side is coated).
Tibetan singing bowl is a type of bowl made of a special alloy that vibrates and creates a rich singing sound when struck against it or slide with a wooden stick. It is also known as the Himalayan singing bowl. Tibetan singing bowls have long been used by Buddhist monks in the practice of meditation.
Tibetan singing bowls are sound therapy aids, used to deepen relaxation and meditation. In India, there is also a well-known path of yoga called Nada yoga - 'unity through sound'. It is an ancient spiritual path and science of inner transformation through the use of sound. Sound meditation is a universal path to self-realization that is accessible to everyone and can be used by people of any faith or spiritual orientation.
Hand-Forged Singing Bowls
Each bowl is handmade or forged. . It is made of copper, tin and 8 precious metals (Ag, Ni, Cd, Ru, Pd, Pt, Cr, Mn).
Hand-forged singing bowls are entirely made by hand-forging process. Such a process requires several steps. First, the various ingredients melt in the oven. The hot molten alloy is taken from the furnace and poured into a mold to prepare the base for different sizes and weights. Then the base is taken out of the mold and cut into special metal plates of different sizes and thicknesses. Then comes the manual forging process, after precise measurement and categorization according to the weight and size of the bowls. Four to five round metal plates are stacked on top of each other and heated until glowing. Blacksmiths forge metal plates while they are hot, then reheat them to further shape the singing vessel. This process of heating and forging continues until the desired shape and size is produced. Due to the handmade nature of forged or hammered singing bowls, there will always be slightly different shapes and sizes. The process is completed with any decorations or coloring and fine processing.
How to use
Place the container on your left palm (if you are right-handed) so that your fingers do not touch the container. With your right hand, you take a wooden stick that has one part coated. If the container is smaller, slide along the edge of the container with the uncoated part of the stick. If the container is larger, slide with the lined one. Press down firmly with the stick and slide continuously along the outer edge of the bowl in a circular motion. When you hear a bright, clear tone, you can slow down the movement. Spin the stick by moving your whole arm, not just your wrist. You will get the feel with practice. You can also gently hit the container at the beginning to make it vibrate and thus elicit the sound faster. Some add pure water to the singing bowl to achieve different resonant vibrations and sounds. In this case, wipe the bowl with a soft cloth after use.
